➝Info: ENG: The Principality of Sealand, more commonly known as Sealand, is a micronation and entity not recognized by the UN, located in the North Sea, 10 km off the coast of Suffolk, in southeastern England. Kingdom during World War II. Access to the island is only possible by helicopter or boat. Once called the Rough Towers, the base was a maritime defense against German attacks, consisting of two large towers with a capacity of 200 soldiers. It was deactivated as soon as the war ended. Since 1967, the facility has been occupied by then British Major Paddy Roy Bates; her colleagues and family members claim that it is an independent sovereign state. Outside commentators generally classify Sealand as a micronation rather than an unrecognized state. Although it has been described as the world's smallest nation, Sealand is currently not officially recognized as a sovereign state by any other sovereign nation. Although Roy Bates claims that she is de facto recognized by Germany, having hosted a German diplomat in the micronation, and by the United Kingdom, after an English court ruled that it has no jurisdiction over Sealand, neither action constitutes de jure recognition. Historically, the fort belongs to the United Kingdom, but is located outside its territorial domains. The London government has already tried to expel the Bates family from Sealand, but has not been successful due to this factor. Also, the platform is outside the territorial domains of France, which makes its location a “no man's land”.
