Addiction is most commonly discussed in the context of substance abuse, but in recent years, mental health professionals have also recognized other compulsive, destructive behaviors as warranting the designation. Recently, over the protest of those who advocate for radical sexual license, leading experts across a variety of disciplines agreed that pornography use is, in fact, addictive and a public health crisis.
It is now evident that what has long been classified as a harmless, personal expression of sexuality is actually a behavior that is destructive not only to the addict, but also to his or her community. From an addict’s spouse to a trafficked teen on the other side of the country or the world, pornography consumption and addiction makes victims of many, degrading and commodifying human beings along its destructive path. It is for this reason that the National Center on Sexual Exploitation is using a multifaceted approach, calling on the media, legislators, and businesses to join them in exposing and responding to this public health crisis. Join FRC and the NCOSE’s Haley Halverson to learn more about the effort to reveal the consequences of pornography addiction and combat the industry that fuels it.
Haley Halverson joined the National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) as Director of Communications in May of 2015. In her role, Haley acts as a spokesperson for NCOSE and oversees strategic messaging development, press outreach, email marketing, social media marketing, and creative video production.
Prior to working at NCOSE, Haley wrote for the Media Research Center. Haley graduated from Hillsdale College (summa cum laude) where she double majored in Politics and interdisciplinary religious studies, and conducted a senior thesis on the abolitionist argument regarding prostitution. During her studies, she studied abroad at Oxford University and established a background in policy research through several internship experiences in the DC area. Haley has appeared on, or been quoted in, multiple media outlets including Voice of America, the New York Post, the Washington Post, USA Radio Network, the Washington Times, the Christian Post, EWTN News Nightly, LifeSiteNews, and American Family News.

This week President Obama teamed up with ABC-TV to promote his government takeover of healthcare. In a tightly scripted town hall style meeting at the White House the President responded to questions from the audience. The presidents response to one womans question regarding treatment for her elderly mother provided a nuanced, but still startling glimpse into the very real possibly of Americans being denied healthcare by the government.
And all we're suggesting -- and we're not going to solve every difficult problem in terms of end-of-life care; a lot of that is going to have to be we as a culture and as a society starting to make better decisions within our own families and for ourselves. But what we can do is make sure that at least some of the waste that exists in the system that's not making anybody's mom better, that is loading up on additional tests or additional drugs that the evidence shows is not necessarily going to improve care, that at least we can let doctors know, and your mom know, that you know what, maybe this isn't going to help, maybe you're better off not having the surgery, but taking the painkiller.
We base our concerns about denying certain Americans health care not just on the Presidents statements this week, but on two votes in a United States Senate committee when attempts to prohibit rationing by the government were voted down by Democratic members of the committee.
This concern about rationing is only magnified when you consider the very real possibility that you might be denied a treatment or a procedure, while at the same time being forced, through your tax dollars, to underwrite a mother ending the life of her unborn child.
As Ive said before we believe every American should have access to affordable, quality healthcare and we believe that can be done without a government takeover of healthcare. Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina introduced the Health Care Freedom Act this week which appears to be a healthy alternative to a government takeover. The President and the Congress should give it full consideration.
