Are Posie Parker Fans N*zis? Aussies Discuss COVID Policies, Gender, & Other Mainstream Media Lies
This Spectrum Street Epistemology exercise in Sydney, Australia began with a claim about COVID-19. It quickly transformed into a conversation about mainstream media and gender self-ID. Two women and one man with diverse views on the topics participated.
Peter Boghossian offered two claims about COVID-19, the first regarding Australia’s response to the pandemic and the second about mask mandates. Discussion regarding media influence during the pandemic led to a third claim: “Mainstream media is trustworthy.”
One participant said her feelings on mainstream media would have been different just a few days before. She said “the scales have fallen from my eyes” following Australian media coverage of Kellie-Jay Keen’s “Let Women Speak” events. Peter offered two new claims to the group related to this topic: “Female-only spaces should exist,” and “Trans women are women.” The conversation ended with an attempt to define “woman.”
Two participants indicated that discussing gender-ID laws could have negative consequences, including losing friends and employment. One woman’s hands were visibly shaking. In San Juan, Puerto Rico, Peter Boghossian asked five people to consider the claim, “The US is designed to privilege white people.” Peter was the only white person participating in the conversation.
There was widespread agreement with the claim among the participants. They cited various systems that participate in racism against blacks, including policing, the judicial and university system, and the overall way that resources are distributed. The participants were candid in their assessments of race relations and shared views on racial stereotypes, the sources of racial animosity, and the particular problem of “white women.”
At the end of the conversation, Peter asks the group how white people could alleviate the expressed grievances.

This was our first event using the epistemological format, which we continually improved throughout the tour. In future events, we switched to a Likert Scale (strongly agree to strongly disagree) versus having students choose either "agree" or "disagree."
