Israel recognizes Western Sahara as part of Morocco
In a move of warming ties between states, Israel has recognized Moroccan sovereignty over the disputed Western Sahara region also known as the Sahrawi Republic. We hear from Sahrawi political activist and analyst Taleb Alisalem, who believes Israel's move is designed at undermining security in the region.
The Indian PM announced the repeal of the controversial laws after farmers were involved in sometimes violent, year-long protests over the issue, with dozens dying from heat, cold, and Covid.
Farmers feared the three laws, market reforms to the agricultural sector, would devastate their earnings by forcing them into selling their crops cheaply.
Modi made the shock announcement during a televised speech, to the delight of the farming community nationwide, with the premier vowing to make a ‘fresh start.’

The toll of Israel’s bombardment of Gaza is no more apparent than in these before and after images captured by Maxar Technologies. Gaza has been ravaged by a sustained barrage of Israeli airstrikes, which have persisted for 20 days and have severely impacted relief operations while leaving entire neighborhoods in ruins. In some areas, even the rubble has been pounded into dust.
The current conflict marks the deadliest of the five Gaza wars for both sides, resulting in significant casualties. According to the Hamas-run Health Ministry, over 6,546 Palestinians have been killed, and 17,439 others have been wounded. In Israel, more than 1,400 people have been killed, mainly civilians who lost their lives during the initial Hamas rampage on October 7. Israel’s military reports 222 people, including foreigners, as hostages in Gaza, with four having been released. Although, as these images show, Hamas has fewer and fewer places left to hide.

NATO’s Ukraine proxy war against Russia is not going well. Thus far, Kiev’s much-anticipated counteroffensive appears to be going nowhere. And NATO itself is deeply divided on the issue of Ukraine joining the alliance. The Biden administration must be wondering, was it worth it?

Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said the quiet part out loud when she claimed European nations ‘fight a war against Russia.’ Indeed, what has been called a gaffe is in fact the truth. The collective west is at war with Russia and their client state Ukraine is losing.

Mars isn’t known for its great weather. Permanent sub-zero temperatures (although, interestingly, the highest temperature ever recorded on Mars is still higher than the highest recorded in Scotland), a sparse atmosphere of carbon dioxide and dust, dim Sun and weak gravity are all turn offs for potential Martian tourists. Add to the list impossibly tall whirlwinds. This particular dust devil was spotted by the Perseverance rover as it very slowly made its way across the Martian horizon, with NASA releasing the timelapse video taken at four seconds per frame (no, that’s not a typo).
Martian dust devils have been spotted regularly since the start of Martian exploration, beginning with NASA’s Viking probes in the 1980s. Thanks to the low gravity and thin atmosphere, these dust devils can grow much larger than on Earth. The largest recorded twister was 8km tall and 0.7km wide. Despite the size, they are mostly harmless – while the circulating dust can potentially damage the delicate scientific instruments of Martian rovers, most dust devils just end up giving the solar panels a good clean.
