# ***The Charlatans Biography***
***"The Charlatans"*** are an English rock band formed in the **[West Midlands](https://cutt.ly/NIvCiHx)** in 1988 by bassist ***[Martin Blunt](https://cutt.ly/9IvCmt0)***, who recruited fellow West Midlanders ***[Rob Collins](https://cutt.ly/NIvCItb)*** (keyboards), ***[Jon Brookes](https://cutt.ly/wIvCJVe)*** (drums), Jon Day (guitar) and singer-guitarist ***Baz Ketley***. ***Ketley*** left the band and was replaced by singer ***[Tim Burgess](https://cutt.ly/pIvX8R9)***.
Although the ***Charlatans*** would later become popularly associated with the *[Madchester scene](https://cutt.ly/YIb7ZuY)*, the band's early demos recorded in 1988 in *Birmingham* and *Dudley* already evidenced the sound that the band ultimately became famous for, dominated by ***Collins*** *Hammond organ*.
With their fusion of 1960s *soul*, *R&B* and *garage rock*, the band saw themselves firmly in the West Midlands tradition that included Birmingham bands ***[The Spencer Davis Group](https://cutt.ly/EIvVvS7)*** and early ***[Dexys Midnight Runners](https://cutt.ly/UIvVQUl)***.
> Drawing on Blunt's background in mod and psych outfits, ***Collins'*** outrageously funky keyboards and ***Burgess'*** unexpected star quality - even if his voice wasn't the strongest, ***The Charlatan’s*** debut album, ***“Some Friendly”*** is just that, a friendly and fun vibe.
>
> Album delivers everything from '60s beat groove to *Madchester* bagginess with verve. True, the group was still following in the ***[Roses](https://cutt.ly/fIbQ9zz)***/***[Mondays](https://cutt.ly/6IbQBnc)*** slipstream - ***["Fool's Gold"](https://cutt.ly/4IbWlwf)*** was the blueprint for much of the album - but the individual delights of the slow trance ***["Opportunity"](https://cutt.ly/WIv9MJZ)***, ***["Polar Bear"](https://cutt.ly/ZIv94i0)*** upfront rhythms and ***["Flower"](https://cutt.ly/2Iv3qop)*** slightly ominous funk all show the band's abilities well.
>
> Pure pop gem, like some hippie flourishing candy to listener's ears, remains the concluding number of the band's sets to this day for good reason.

# ***The Blur Biography***
***Blur*** are an English rock band, formed in *[London](https://cutt.ly/lIPfkyL)* in 1988. The group consists of singer ***[Damon Albarn](https://cutt.ly/kIOpffK)***, guitarist ***[Graham Coxon](https://cutt.ly/MIOpgnF)***, bassist ***[Alex James](https://cutt.ly/oIOpkoU)*** and drummer ***[Dave Rowntree](https://cutt.ly/2IOpxaQ)***.
Following an image makeover in the mid-'90s, the group emerged as the most popular band in the U.K., establishing itself as heir to the English guitar pop tradition of ***[The Kinks](https://cutt.ly/fIPfT16)***, ***[The Small Faces](https://cutt.ly/KIPfOYh)***, ***[The Who](https://cutt.ly/FIPfJK5)***, ***[The Jam](https://cutt.ly/XIPglkh)***, ***[Madness](https://cutt.ly/CIPgCC3)***, and ***[The Smiths](https://cutt.ly/GIPg0k0)***. In the process, the group broke down the doors for a new generation of guitar bands that became labelled as *[britpop](https://cutt.ly/dIPg7M8)*.
Through some reinvention, ***Blur*** reclaimed their position as an art pop band in the late '90s by incorporating *indie rock* and *lo-fi* influences, which finally gave them their elusive American success in 1997.
But the band's legacy remained in Britain, where they helped revitalise *guitar pop* by skillfully updating the country's pop traditions.
> On the second studio album, ***"Modern Life Is Rubbish"***, the band incorporated influences from traditional British *guitar-pop* groups, and the resulting sound was melodic and lushly produced, featuring brass, woodwind and backing vocalists.
The album's songs explore a number of styles—punk rock ***["Advert"](https://cutt.ly/DIOxD4j)***, neo-psychedelia ***["Chemical World"](https://cutt.ly/MIOcx1b)***, and vaudeville music-hall ***["Sunday Sunday"](https://cutt.ly/MIOcx1b)***.
Blur uses British guitar pop from the ***[”Beatles”](https://cutt.ly/2IPJISB)*** to ***[”My Bloody Valentine”](https://cutt.ly/yIPJFYj)*** as a foundation, spinning off tales of contemporary despair. The reason ***“MLIR”*** is such a dynamic record is that nearly every song is carefully constructed and boasts a killer melody, even with its flaws, it's a record of considerable vision and excitement.

# ***"Autumn's Grey Solace" Biography***
***“Autumn's Grey Solace”*** is an American ethereal wave and *dream pop* duo from ***[St. Augustin, Florida](https://cutt.ly/ZQ2Mryv)***. It consists of soprano vocalist ***Erin Welton*** and multi-instrumentalist ***Scott Ferrell***. His musicianship along with her crystal clear vocals, blend together to create a hybrid of shoegazing melodies textured with ethereal soundscapes.
Exploring the music of ***AGS*** is like awakening yourself to beauties you never knew slumbered inside you. At the center of this galaxy is a gathering of light by which is obliterated your darkest fears. It’s a visceral, celestial body that thrives on language, melody, and the generative force of which we all partake in being born.
> Their tenth not-on-label album ***“Celestial Realms”***, is kind of a follow up to ***“[Eifelian](https://cutt.ly/xQ5OEyU)”***. Where that album was a dark ruminative mediation on time, this one is a light and airy ode to the heavens. It's full of crystalline rippling guitar textures and layers of abstract vocalizing. A spiritual descendant of ***“[Cocteau Twins](https://cutt.ly/tQ69Z0z)”*** ***“[Victorialand](https://cutt.ly/tQ69Z0z)”***, recalling that album’s dreamy delicacy.
>
> "The record's tone, production and aesthetic is sublime, one of their best sounding records but the music is so distinctively typical and within the usual tropes they perform it fails to make itself known or unique. After many enjoyable listens I feel as if I could have been listening to any of their recent releases, it lacks distinction or something to separate and call its own". ***"Stereolab"*** are an English-French avant-pop band formed in London in 1990.
Led by the songwriting team of ***[Tim Gane](https://cutt.ly/BmFnRwl)*** (guitar and keyboards) and ***[Lætitia Sadie](https://cutt.ly/dmFnYuG)r***(vocals, keyboards and guitar), the group's music combines influences from *krautrock*, *lounge* and *1960s pop music*, often incorporating a repetitive motorik beat with heavy use of vintage electronic keyboards and female vocals sung in English and French.
Their lyrics have political and philosophical themes influenced by the ***[Surrealist](https://cutt.ly/imFnOlx)*** and ***[Situationist](https://cutt.ly/ymFnAt5)*** movements.
Although ***"Stereolab"*** found success in the underground music scene and were influential enough to spark a renewed interest in older analogue instruments, they have never had a significant commercial impact. Meaby the key is lost in the interview where ***Gane*** and ***Sadier*** have discussed their musical philosophy - *"to be unique for us was more important than to be good"*.
After tragic loss of former band member ***[Mary Hansen](https://cutt.ly/bmBRfKp)***, who died in a 2002 ic cycling accident, ***”Stereolab”*** decided to continue recording at the new studio they were building in the **Médoc** region of **France** but had difficulties completing its construction. It's something of a miracle, then, that ***”Margerine Eclipse”*** not only exists but is some of the most joyful music of ***”Stereolab”*** latter-day career.
The fizzy ***"Margerine Rock"*** sounds like it could've appeared on a volume of ***"[Switched On](https://cutt.ly/3m9ifx0)"***. Here and on ***"[Bop Scotch's](https://cutt.ly/nm3DCjd)"*** synthy surf-rock, they return to the effortless fun that informed their music prior to ***"[Dots and Loops](https://cutt.ly/Mm9iHCw)"***. ***"[Hillbilly Motobike](https://cutt.ly/Gm3DIP7)"*** is another breezy standout, although it's one of many moments on ***Margerine Eclipse*** where Hansen's absence is palpable...
Moments like this make the ***"ME"*** strong, surprisingly reinvigorated album from a band dedicated to pushing themselves, no matter what the circumstances.
**”Vonal Declosion”*** is the first song on the band's eighth studio album, ***"[Margerine Eclipse](https://cutt.ly/7m9op14)"***, released on 27 January 2004 by ***"[Duophonic Records](https://cutt.ly/nmFZnnE)"*** and ***"[Elektra Records](https://cutt.ly/AmFZWIh)"***.
The album is in large part a eulogy to former band member ***[Mary Hansen](https://cutt.ly/bmBRfKp)***, who died in 2002.

***"Cocteau Twins"*** was a Scottish band active from 1979 to 1997. They were formed in Grangemouth by ***[Robin Guthrie](https://cutt.ly/tvKpRaT)*** (guitars, drum machine) and ***[Will Heggie](https://cutt.ly/nvKpOu1)*** (bass), adding ***[Elizabeth Fraser](https://cutt.ly/AvKpDfq)*** (vocals) in 1981 and replacing Heggie with multi-instrumentalist ***[Simon Raymonde](https://cutt.ly/CvKpJR8)*** in 1983.
The group earned critical praise for their ethereal, effects-laden sound and the vocals of Fraser, whose lyrics often abandon recognisable language, than on the subjective sounds and textures of verbalized emotions. They pioneered the 1980s alternative rock subgenre of dream pop.
***"Four-Calendar Café"*** is the seventh studio album by ***”Cocteau Twins”***, released on 18 October 1993 on ***”[Fontana](https://cutt.ly/5vKBAq9)”***. It distinguishes itself from the rest of the Twins' albums in two major areas: the sound is much more pop-oriented and less ambient than previous works, and vocalist Elizabeth Fraser's lyrics are more intelligible than usual.
The album, which proved to be quite illustrative of the period: programmed drum loops, spoon-fed melodies and a shift towards the "adult-alternative" style that flourished in the decade. they made an entirely placid album that didn't quite offer the same dizzying euphoria as its predecessors.
Musically the songs have a winding sound to them and the album seems to fit so many sounds and styles into a consistent mood. Few of the songs sound like would-be music on a future planet where time moves slower and less heavily, but very grounded by their subject matter and still very human.
***”Theft, And Wandering Around Lost”*** is the fourth song on ”Cocteau Twins” seventh album ”[Four-Calendar Cafe](https://cutt.ly/KvLH1yJ)”.
