Sit back as I tell you the story of the great Luba Empire. The Luba Empire emerged in the late 1500’s in Southern part of the modern-day Democratic Republic of Congo. The area where the Kingdom emerged is called the Upemba Depression and there have been archaeological findings that prove that this area has been inhabited almost continuously since the 4th or 5th Century. The Kingdom was founded by King Nkongolo Mwamba and it thrived for a while before long-distance trade started and ultimately led to the downfall of the Kingdom. I would like to encourage you to research more about the Kingdom as this video is not enough to describe it. Tshisekedi the father was arguably the most popular opposition figure in Congo. He was active mostly during the presidency of Mobutu and also worked in the government on multiple occasions. I made a video about him because I believe his political journey was very interesting and it also reveals a lot about the political scene of the post-colonial Congo.
