XIII Century. Tarragona Lérida Ávila Cuenca Burgos: latin cross plant, three naves, many chapels, amazing cloister, lots of sculptures. The last six images are about the chapel of the Condestable. Toledo: five naves, radiating, squared and semicircular chapels. Here is the chapel of Don Álvaro de Luna. León: very solid building. Three naves. The head is bigger than common. Use of quadripartite vaults. Use of polychromed windows. Great central rosette. XIV Century. Barcelona: three naves, plant of salon, chapels, little triforium. Girona: built with only one nave. Here is the sculpture San Carlomagno by Jaime Cascalls. Palma de Mallorca: epic cathedral, use of pillars that would be pre-salomonic. Santa María del Mar: great buttresses and open chapels. Very tall and dark interior. Three naves, being the central one the sum of the other two. Nice rosettes. Valencia: it is interesting to see the three doors, one romanesque, other gothic and other baroque. Pamplona. Monastery of Poblet: this was the pantheon of the Corona de Aragón from XIV to XV century. XV Century. Sevilla: five naves and almost same height in naves. Here is the tomb of Christopher Columbus. There are adds in Toledo, like the Door of the Lions or the chapel of Don Álvaro de Luna by Hanequin of Brussels. Also in Burgos, because John of Cologne use spires in the towers, and his son Simon of Cologne melt it with mudejar, like in the chapel of the Condestable. Palencia: the tower was for military use but when it was done, was built the pinnacle. Salamanca: the new cathedral, mixes gothic, renaissance and baroque. Segovia: one of the latest gothic cathedrals of Spain and Europe, because it was built in XVI century, when in Europe was the Renaissance. Murcia: of various styles, need to name here the chapel of the Velez. The facade is baroque. Cartuja de Miraflores: here is the sepulchre of Juan II de Castilla and Isabel de Portugal. Isabelline gothic, also called Catholic Kings style, is a style of Castile that represents the transition between final gothic and initial renaissance, with gothic structural characteristics and castillan, mudejar, flemish and italian decoration. Sculpture. Castilla. XIII Century: french influence. Sculptures of the cathedrals of León and Burgos. XIV Century: decandence. In Toledo is the tower of the clock and also sepulchres in the cathedral of Ávila. In the second/third of the century there are three points: Toledo (with the chapel of Don Álvaro de Luna and the doors of the Lions), Burgos (the adds by Simon of Cologne in the chapel of Condestable and Gil de Siloe with the sepulchre of Juan II and Isabel de Portugal in the Cartuja de Miraflores) and Sevilla (adds in the cathedral by Lorenzo Mercadante and also the sepulchre of cardenal Cervantes). Aragón. XIII Century: nothing important. XIV Century: sepulchres in Seo de Zaragoza (see Mudéjar in Arab Art for all about Seo) and also the tombs of the Kings of Aragón in Poblet by Jaime Cascalls, and also the San Carlomagno of Girona. Pere Morey and Juan de Valenciennes work in the cathedral of Palma de Mallorca. XV Century: adds in Palma de Mallorca, Pere Joan makes the altar in Tarragona and the altar of Seo de Zaragoza. Navarra. XIII and XIV Centuries: related with french sculpture. Jacques Perut works in Pamplona in the Puerta Preciosa. XV Century: Janin de Lomme makes the sepulchre of Carlos el Noble and his wife in Pamplona. Portugal. Alcobaça. Coimbra: there are two cathedrals. The old is romanesque with gothic cloister and the new is mannerist and baroque. In the images are the new one, I just was confused. Lisboa. Batalha. Manueline style is the gothic that happen since first/third of XVI century over the reign of Manuel I the Lucky. Use of late gothic elements mixed with renaissance. Mosteiro dos Jerónimos: the most important thing here is the cloister. Convento de Cristo (Tomar): the decoration is amazing, mostly in exterior. It was a place for the knights of Christ. It is a civilization with its own personality. The religious conception and divine concept of royalty determine the creation of an official art, around beyond. The history of Egyptian art is usually divided into many stages as its history. It is said that it started in 3300 BCE, until 395 BCE, according to the historical divisions. The First Intermediate Period comes at 2250 BCE and ends at 2035 BCE. It was a period ruled by disorganization and chaos. Finally, Mentuhotep II reunificate Egypt. The Middle Kingdom is a period that goes from 2035 to 1668 BCE. It goes from X to XIII Dynasties. The capital is not in Memphis as before. Now the capital is Thebes, at south, a more rocky landscape. The cult is to the god Amon. The rocky landscape makes that they build the temples and tombs excavated in the mountains. These are the hypogeums. Spearmen from the Tomb of Mesehti at Asyut: little wooden sculptures. Temple of Mentuhotep II at Deir el-Bahari: almost destructed, it was built in two superimposed terraces and supported by pilasters, and possibly, over the second, there was a little pyramid. Hatshepsut built her hypogeum next to the Mentuhotep II one. Hathoric capital: capital with the shape of the goddess Hathor. Pyramid of Amenemhet I: pyramids in this period are poorly maintained. Nucleus of adobe, with stone in the coating. Pyramid of Senusret I: same. Pyramid of Amenemhet III: same. Black Pyramid of Amenemhet III: same. Tombs of Beni-Hassan: more hypogeums. Mentuhotep II: with black color, he has enormous feet. He has the normal attributes of the pharaohs. Senusret III: very realistic (and strange, because he is a pharaoh) sculptures. With stern expression, he stands out for his big ears. Sphinx of Amenemhet III: this pharaoh is representated as a sphinx. Human head and lion body, that symbolizes the strenght. Block statue of Hotep: found in tombs and temples, these statues representate the act of go out the death to come to life again. These statues are like memorials. Sanctuary of Osiris: contains stelas. Hippo jewel: little jewel. Jewels: some jewels, each one with a meaning. Shebyu collar: this collar is like a prize for the military valour. The main manifestations had their origin in religion and politic power, being shintoism and buddhism the main philosophies. Azuchi-Momoyama: from 1573-1603. The art of this period goes far from buddhist influence, and tries to be traditional. There is a succesion of military leaders, as Oda Nobynaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu, that tried to bring peace to Japan after a long period of war. The period ended when Ieyashu stablished the Tokugawa shogunate, starting the Edo period. Castles: called shiro, they were fortified due to the introduction of weapons. Himeji-jō: it combines grey and white, and there are paintings in the walls inside, by Kanō Eitoku. It uses tatami Osaka-jō: it is very popular in the festivity of hanami, in the flourishment of the japanese sakura Azuchi-jō: it was the residence of Oda Nobunaga, and it was destroyed by the army of Akechi Mitsuhide, the construction is a replica Matsumoto-jō: also called castle of the crown due to its black walls Nijō-jō: formed by various buildings, among them, the Ninomaru palace and the Honmaru palace, and also some gardens Fushimi-Momoyama: also called Fushimi-jō or Momoyama-jō, it is well known by its tea room. It was destroyed in the siege of Fushimi by Ishida Mitsunari, so the current one is a replcia Odawara-jō: very well located strategically Edo-jō: when Ieyasu became a shogun, Edo would be the capital city, and so this castle would be important. It was an enormous military complex Tea ceremony: also called chadō, the master Sen No Rikyū is important to mention. There are various kinds of tea cups. A great ceramist was Chojiro Chawan: simple cups Chaire: small cup with an ivory top Mizusashi: ceramic for fresh water Nezumi: dishes Kogan: jars for water Also it is worth to mention the Kintsugi or Kintsukuroi, a method of repairing ceramics using resin and dust of gold, silver or platinum Painting: the Tosa and Kanō schools continued their production, aswell as Sumi-e Honami Kōetsu: he was painter, poet and gardener. Scroll of the Deer Tosa School: it continued the yamato-e style, with historic scenes and landscapes Tosa Mitsuyoshi: Scenes of Genji Monogatari Tosa Mitsuoki: Scenes of Genji Monogatari Kanō School: it recieved most of the official orders, developing mural painting in the main japanese castles, mostly heroic scenes with animals, real and mythological, and also gardens and landscapes of the four seasons Kanō Eitoku: Great cypress, Guardian lions, Flowers and birds in the Four Seaons Peafowl, Flowers and birds in the Four Seaons Phoenix, Hermits and a fairy, Birds of flowers in the Four Seasons, Trees in doors Kanō Sanraku: Plum-tree in screen, Peony in screen, Tigers and dragons Sumi-e Hasegawa Tōhaku: founder of the Hasegawa School, he developed his own style with chinese ink, and was the rival of Eitoku. Forest of pines Kaihō Yūshō: he practises both the yamato-e and sumi-e. Screen with floral decoration Nanban: this the art influenced by the contact with western people, specially Portugal and Spain. Nanban means barbarians of the south. Kanō School: this school made many of these paintings. Kanō Naizen and Kanō Naganobu are two of the painters Among the products that western people liked were the arks, made with larquer, to save relics and sacred objects Persecution of christianism at the end of XVI century, aswell the politic of the Tokugawa, meant the downfall of nanban art.
