Mali's foreign minister, Abdullahi Diop, has emphasized the need for the force to promptly depart from the region. Mali is the first African country to terminate relations with UN peacekeepers for failing a mission. The UN Peacekeepers were first brought into Mali in 2013 to restore security and stability to the country. However, after a decade of disappointing performance, Mali's foreign minister has advocated for its withdrawal. He has appealed to the United Nations Security Council to terminate the mission, which has been operational in the country for a decade, citing its incapacity to address security challenges adequately.
