Beware of the Angel of Light, Satan The Deceiver, the Liar, the One who cannot abide in the Truth is allowed to exert his full powers of deception. God is guarding and preserving all the truth-lovers, the rest of mankind goes with the Devil. That is a thumbnail of the End. The First Seal is the Global spread of the Lie. Amazingly, this first seal and its white horseman of deception is an event on God’s timetable, much described in the Scriptures. We ended last time in 2 Thessalonians. Please turn back there with me and as you do, remember that these twin epistles to the church in the city of Thessalonica, were Paul’s first epistles. Paul taught them more about Christ’s end-time plans, than anyone except John in Revelation. First, Truth Gets Abandoned: 2 Th. 2:3 Then, Almighty God Gets Pushed Aside: 2 Th. 2:4-8 Then, Satan Amazes the World: 2 Th. 2:9-10 So, God Sends Strong Delusion on Truth Neglectors: 2 Th. 2:11-12 And for this reason, God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. Our protection comes as we believe the truth about God. Last time we looked at the century-old set of doctrinal positions in a book called The Fundamentals, which defined orthodox doctrine for those God calls “lovers” of the truth. This group of conservative, Bible-believing, and teaching pastors and professors sat down and declared what were the “foundational doctrines” of the faith. They published their confession in a set of books called The Fundamentals, which contains: Seven Essential Doctrines Here is the list of the seven essentials, that were written as a guide to warn us when the truth is eroding in Christ’s Church. INSPIRATION: All we know and believe about God is based on His Word, so they affirmed the Inspiration and Reliable Historicity of the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16-17). DOCTRINE: God’s Word teaches clear doctrines about Jesus Christ and His Church, so they specifically named the cults who presented false gospels in their day such as the errors of the Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormonism, Christian Science, Spiritism, and so on (Titus 1:9). DEPRAVITY: God’s Word declares the reality of sin, so they affirmed that man is not basically good, but born a sinner (Romans 5:12). SUBSTITUTION: God’s Word only presents Biblical salvation as received only by faith in the God-incarnate Christ Jesus who became sin for sinners to save them (2 Corinthians 5:21a). IMPUTATION: God’s Word teaches that salvation can not be earned at any level, and is dispensed by God, not by any church and cleric, thus they clearly exposed the errors of Roman Catholicism, and every other religion of human achievement and works righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21b). CHRISTOLOGY: All doctrinal error starts in some way with an incorrect view of Christ, so they strongly affirmed the Deity, the work, and the personal visible Return of Christ (2 John 1:9-11). Note the final essential is: CREATION: God is revealed from cover to cover in His Word as the Creator of the Universe just as described in the Bible, so they exposed the grave errors of Evolutionism and Darwinism. Colossians 1:15-17(NKJV) He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. One of God’s attributes is His wrath. Last time we saw His future, ultimate, smoldering wrath as He returns to judge the world. That is His cataclysmic wrath as He pours out His fiery indignation. There is another element of God’s wrath and that is what operates all the time. It is called His consequential wrath. Cataclysmic & Consequential, both are forms of God’s wrath against sin, and sinners who do not repent. God’s consequential wrath was built into His creation of the universe. Please turn with me to Hebrews 11. Our Creator-God who is the All Mighty Maker of the Heavens & the Earth, spoke so much into existence at Creation, that scientists have never stopped discovering, for thousands of years, more and more of what He did. Underlying all the vast parts of the Universe, are laws that seem to govern everything. Have you ever thought that human scientists only discover and name laws that are already there? Humans didn’t make the laws of physics or biology, they just discovered and try to use them. We know them as the: Immutable Laws of Nature We all know that there are laws in science. The well-used laws of science lead to constant technological advances. The more we know, understand, and harness those laws the faster, smaller, and more powerful & efficient our technology becomes. But for just a moment, think about where those laws came from. Immediately we as believers know that they came from the Almighty God who spoke into existence this Universe, overflowing with the laws of thermodynamics and electromagnetism that frame everything. God invented, instituted, and maintains those very laws of science that every scientist lives by and works with. The laws of electromagnetism have led humans to understand the spectrum of light, sound, and all other known waveforms. So much so that we can study, measure, and eventually use the various lengths & speeds of these waves, which include the tiny realm of visible and hearable waves of sound and light. God on The Throne is the originator, the Creator of angels. God spoke and billions of angels appeared from nothing. So God is greater than anything He created. Yet those angels He made from nothing have powers that exceed our comprehension. There are the two types of angels revealed by God: the good angels and the rebel angels. So, it is very clear from the divisions of the angels that God doesn’t tolerate any rebellion at all. There are many orders of both good and bad angelic creatures. On the good side there are at least five orders of good, or holy, angels: 1. The Archangels: (Gabriel and Michael are named); 2. The Flames: there are seven angels that seem to always stand like flames of fire around God’s Throne (Rev. 1:); 3. The Guardian: there was an anointed/covering cherub (Lucifer’s, lit. “light”, role before he fell to become Satan) in Ezekiel 28 and Isaiah 14; 4. The Cherubim: found around God’s Throne and other places (Genesis 4, Ezekiel 1, Revelation); 5. The Angels: (by the billions it seems), all through the Scriptures). Now remember again that these: Angels Created by God Have A power that Exceeds our Comprehension The power of the good angels is clear, but very little is told us about them. But when we look at the other side of the angel spectrum, several orders of bad, or unholy angels begin to test the limits of our minds as we see the scope of their powers.
