Oregon Deputy Saves 2 Year-Old From Middle Of Highway
** (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) ** Dashcam Video Shows Sheriff’s Deputy Rescuing Toddler Running Down Oregon Highway After a toddler was spotted running down the middle of a dark highway by a sheriff’s deputy who rescued him in Oregon, the Sheriff’s Office released dashcam video of the incident as a way of warning motorists about the dangers distracted driving. Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Gautney was driving on U.S. 101 in the coastal city of Newport on Jan. 9, apparently a rainy evening, when he spotted the 2-year-old running down the middle turn lane toward his patrol car. Gautney quickly stopped his vehicle, got out and scooped up the toddler, the video shows. A big rig passes by in the oncoming lane just seconds later.
The deputy soon learned the child’s parents were frantically searching for the little boy, who had escaped from a nearby community center gathering, according to sheriff’s Lt. Curtis Landers, who narrated the video. The boy was reunited with his parents and the incident was determined to be accidental. No charges were filed. The Sheriff’s Office released the video “not … to ridicule or question those involved” but to warn drivers that they need to pay full attention when driving as they could face unexpected conditions. “We are very thankful for Deputy Gautney’s alertness and quick action that allow for this child’s safe return to his parents,” Landers said.

Virginia Beach, Virginia — On December 1, 2022, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) officer received an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) hit on a stolen vehicle. The officer initiated a stop in the parking lot of 665 Newtown Road. The officer attempted to detain 28-year-old Deshawn Whitaker who subsequently escaped his grip and fled on foot. The officer then attempted to detain the front seat passenger, a female later identified as Jacqueline Ortiz, F/20, of Norfolk, who had exited the stolen car and was walking away. The officer attempted to take Ortiz into custody, but she immediately resisted and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, Ortiz repeatedly reached for a handgun she had concealed on her person.
As the struggle continued, Whitaker returned, produced a firearm, and pointed it at the officer. The officer then discharged his service weapon, striking Whitaker. Whitaker was transported to Norfolk General hospital. He succumbed to his injuries on December 2, 2022, shortly after midnight. Ortiz was eventually taken into custody and her handgun recovered. Ortiz was transported to local hospital and treated for minor injuries before being released. She has been charged with Possession of Stolen Property, Concealed Weapon, Possession of Firearm After a Domestic Violence Conviction, and Brandishing a Firearm. Ortiz is currently being held on no bond in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center. The involved officer was treated for minor injuries and is currently on administrative leave which is customary in all Officer Involved Shooting incidents.

Greenville County Sheriff Will Lewis on Friday released dash camera video of a deadly shootout that happened in front of a White Horse Road funeral home last month. During a news conference, Lewis said deputies fired shots after responding to a 911 call on July 14 of an armed man chasing a woman and firing shots at her, Lewis said. Authorities said the suspect, identified as Ramiro Bravo Ramirez, 34, shot Candy Rosario, 25, as she ran across White Horse Road. According to Lewis, Ramirez began firing at deputies as soon as they arrived on scene at the parking lot of the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home on 6710 White Horse Road in the Berea community. Lewis described the incident as a "domestic violence case" and said he didn't think the shooting could have been prevented. He said the two may have been in a relationship.
"Mr. Ramirez was going to shoot the victim," Lewis said. "Nothing was going to stop him from doing that. He came to do battle that day." Lewis said Ramirez had two magazines and reloaded his gun during the course of the gun fight. Ramirez also used Rosario's body as a barricade to prevent from being shot, Lewis said. "'He came with the intention to kill that woman," the sheriff said. A total of nine deputies exchanged fire with Ramirez, Lewis said. The deputies were placed on administrative leave and were reinstated to full duty July 25. "After an internal investigation was completed through our the Office of Professional Responsibility, it was determined protocols of the Greenville County Sheriff's Office were met, and there were no policy violations," Lewis said.
The Coroner's Office has ruled Ramirez''s death a suicide and not a suicide by police. Ramirez died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, the Coroner's Office said. Rosario, 25, who survived the initial shooting, died in the hospital about an hour later of a gunshot wound to the head, said Kent Dill, a Greenville County deputy coroner. Lewis said he released the dash cam video over because it was "all encompassing." Body camera footage of the shooting, however, would not be released because of its graphic content, Lewis said. The six-minute video was pulled from a deputy’s in-car camera and shows the entire shootout as it unfolds in front of the funeral home. The video shows Ramirez firing his gun from behind Rosario, and the hood and of the deputy’s patrol car getting struck. Rosario appears to be alive during the exchange.
As Ramirez reloads his weapon, a deputy on the other side of the funeral home returns fire. Dozens of shots are exchanged over the next 50 seconds until a deputy shouts, “Hold fire!” Deputies wearings bulletproof vests then converge on the pair and pull Rosario away from the Ramirez and administer aid to her. The entire encounter lasts about one minute and 12 seconds. The Greenville News published an edited version of the video Friday afternoon out of respect for Rosario's family. During the news conference, Lewis said he called an emergency meeting Thursday with the newly formed Citizen's Advisory Board to review the footage from video and get feedback. Lewis said their general reaction was "shock" and "disbelief that a human being could actually do something like that to another on the side of the road." The State Law Enforcement Division is still investigating the shooting.

On 12/13/17, at approximately 9:30am, Macomb County Sheriff Deputies were called to a residence in Ray Township for a horse that had fallen into an ice covered pond. Deputies responded and attempted to guide the horse out with ropes only to find that the horse could not get its legs above the ice. The Ray Township Fire Department also responded. Police and fire worked together to break up the ice and guide the horse out. During the rescue, a deputy fell through the ice trying to attach a rope to the horse’s bridle. He was quickly pulled from the pond and continued to help the horse. The owners were grateful and horse was checked out by its veterinarian. Both the horse and the deputy were uninjured.

A squad car's dash camera recorded the fiery crash that ended a police chase through two Milwaukee suburbs. Police said a driver on Nov. 23 refused to stop for Hales Corners police, traveled eastbound in a westbound lane, went through a red light and slammed into an oncoming SUV at 76th Street and Layton Avenue in Greenfield. "What happened here is just incredible," said Bret Eulberg, president of Robert Haack Diamonds. The crash knocked out a traffic light, a fire hydrant and the store's retaining wall on the eve of the busiest shopping week of the year. Greenfield police heard Hales Corners' report of a fleeing car heading eastbound.
A dashcam was recording as a Greenfield squad car arrived at 76th Street and Layton Avenue moments after impact. "Once on the scene, they assisted Hales Corners in removing three people from the two vehicles prior to the suspect vehicle being engulfed in flames," said Greenfield Sgt. Scott Zienkiewicz. Police said the two men in the SUV suffered injuries that aren't life-threatening. The suspect is a 20-year-old Milwaukee man. His car was destroyed, and he was checked out at the hospital. He was in jail Wednesday night, facing felony charges. Hales Corners police said they will be at the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office on Friday for charges.

A suspect arrested in the shooting of two northeast Georgia police officers has been identified Tuesday. Authorities released an image of Khari Gordon, who is in custody in connection with Monday's shooting. Two Lavonia Police officers, Captain Michael Schulman and officer Jeffery Martin, were shot Monday evening during a traffic stop along Jones Road. Authorities say the officers were trying to pull over a vehicle along Jones Road, just off Interstate 85. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said the vehicle eventually stopped at the Zaxby’s restaurant. That’s when investigators said the driver pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and fired upon officers, striking both. Investigators said preliminary findings indicate the officers did not return fire before the gunman fled the scene on foot.
Both officers were rushed to a hospital in Greenville, S.C. Police said both received non-life threatening injuries. The names of the two officers were not immediately known. Khari Anthony Dashaun Gordon, 22, of Greenville S.C., was taken into custody after a manhunt which lasted several hours, according the GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation). Investigators said he was hiding in the woods. Gordon is being charged with two counts each of aggravated assault on a police officer and criminal attempt to commit murder. He is also being charged with a single count of possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony. Investigators said more charges are likely. Investigators said Gordon has a substantial criminal history, but did not go into details early Tuesday morning. Investigators said they will be processing the crime scene and interviewing witnesses well into the morning.

A driver helped Ferndale police catch a fleeing suspect Friday night by purposely crashing head-on into the suspect's vehicle, leading to his arrest. The suspect was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of narcotics, third-degree fleeing and eluding, and driving with a suspended license. It happened around 9:30 p.m. Friday. While performing random checks on license plates out on patrol, a Ferndale officer discovered a vehicle owner was wanted on traffic warrants and his license had suspensions. The officer attempted to stop the suspect in a Chevy vehicle on eastbound 8 Mile Road near Livernois when the suspect took off. The suspect, accompanied by a passenger, sped on 8 Mile under he reached Woodward. There, a red light had the traffic ahead of him stopped and blocking his escape. He then proceeded to drive over the sidewalk, across an open area, then back onto Woodward. He fled south at around 80 mph.
As more patrol cars joined the chase, the suspect entered a bus terminal near State Fair, then came back out onto Woodward and fled northbound. The suspect then turned east into a shopping center parking lot near Woodward and 8 Mile. That's when a man leaving the parking lot in his van spotted the suspect attempting to flee, and ran head-on into the suspect's vehicle to stop him. The crash successfully stopped the suspect's car, and the van ended up positioned against the suspect's driver-side door, which stopped him from escaping. Police took the suspect and the passenger into custody, and recovered from the vehicle a stolen handgun with a 30-round magazine and 10 bindles of heroin. The gun had been reported stolen in Detroit. The suspect was arraigned by Ferndale 43rd District Magistrate Kim Wilson and his bond set at $85,000 cash surety.
