Claude Debussy’s most famous piano composition, Clair de lune (“Moonlight”) from his Suite Bergamasque, but transformed into Happy Birthday, in a piano 4-hand mash-up! Sheet music available at: https://www.themeeksduo.com/sheet-music-store/p/happy-birthday-debussy Scott’s notes on the composition: I retained the structure and rhythm of Debussy’s original, but altered the melody and harmony to fit into Happy Birthday throughout. This procedure was different from my other Happy Birthday arrangements in its bar-by-bar faithfulness to the original, and it was a very fun challenge! The Happy Birthday theme appears in its entirety several times, but it’s sometimes presented in fragments, such as 1:17-1:40 . The ending keeps Debussy’s harmonies but the Happy Birthday theme appears slightly distorted, like a distant memory. Enjoy! This composition technique was inspired by professor Emile Naoumoff's assignment during my doctoral studies at Indiana University, where students were asked to apply the harmonies from Bach's C major Prelude to any piece of their choice.
