[764] For-Profit Schools are making money, but failing the grade
If you bought one of the Volkswagens caught up in the emissions scandal your money refund could be on its way. The Dakota Access Pipeline looks like it will continue, but protesters are fighting that pipeline and many more across the country. Then, Alex Mihailovich explains why digital pirates in the United States may be off the hook, but don’t click too fast if you’re in Canada. And Lindsay France talks with Economist Richard Wolff to break down the big money behind For-Profit schools and how they just aren’t cutting it for students.
Earnings season in the US has kicked into high gear and shares in Daimler dropped sharply Friday; Edward Harrison weighs in. Then, Edward sits down with Danielle DiMartino Booth – president of Money Strong – to talk about the Fed.
After the break, Bianca Facchinei takes a look at Obama’s visit to London before the Brexit vote. Afterwards, Edward is joined by Aswath Damodaran – professor of finance at NYU Stern – to talk about valuation. And in The Big Deal, Edward and RT’s Marina Portnaya discuss Uber and unions.

Cuba saw a rebirth of private business in 2008 when President Raul Castro made the decision to enlarge the private sector as a means of absorbing the country’s bloated public sector. Ameera David of RT’s Boom Bust traveled to Cuba and spoke with the CEO of one company, a small packaging start-up called Adorgraf, to learn more about what it takes to make a business grow in the economically-evolving nation.

The debt ceiling: US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew says that after February 7th, the US Treasury will have to start using emergency measures to avoid a default on US national debt. And Lew says he expects to exhaust those measures very quickly. How can the US deal with this situation in a way that doesn't make it look like the largest banana republic in the world. Erin Ade reports.
Then, Erin talks to convicted fraudster and white collar criminal expert Sam Antar about dodgy accounting, accounting fraud and Ponzi schemes. Antar casts a discerning look in particular on Herbalife, the multi-billion dollar nutritional supplement distributor, now accused of being a pyramid scheme by hedge fund manager Bill Ackman, as well as other multi-tier marketing companies.
Afterwards, continuing with the accounting theme, Erin turns to an earlier conversation with writer and independent blogger, Francine McKenna. Erin and Francine speak about the lack of interest in accounting fraud, about accounting irregularities at Zynga, and the shift in investigative resources away from accounting fraud toward easier to explain cases like insider trading and Ponzi schemes.
In the 'Big Deal,' Erin and Boom Bust producer Edward Harrison discuss the positives and the negatives surrounding trade, free trade agreements and, specifically, the North America Free Trade Agreement.
