Formerly Incarcerated Woman Describes Prison And How "Trans Women" Are Affecting Female Inmates
Amie Ichikawa was incarcerated at the Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla for five years. She realized there is a major lack of re-entry services for women and limited accessibility to those available services upon release. She is one of the founding members of WomaniiWoman who's goal is to empower incarcerated women to stand up for themselves and become actively involved in campaigning for their own freedom. We discuss Amie's time incarcerated and how the moving of men into the prison has affected the female inmates. SB132 has led to a steep increase in the amount of men housed at the facility. Many of these men are sex offenders. The women are terrified. The women have no privacy, dignity, or safety. The men, due to their transgender status, receive special treatment while the women are punished if they dare to complain. The women are being assaulted by the men as you might expect. This is WRONG. Please start talking about this with everyone you know. Write your elected officials and let them know this is wrong. To support Amie's work go to WomaniiWoman.org

I have had Amie on my channel twice now to talk about incarcerated women and the hardships they face. I met Jade in Denver at the ICONS conference, and I discovered she had experience with the prison system as well but from a totally different perspective than Amie. It occurred to me that this would be a very interesting conversation! They both agreed immediately to this interview. Get ready for a fascinating talk between two women about the American prison system, “trans” inmates, and the female experience from inside the prison.
