I was in Waterloo, Iowa this past weekend visiting a 97 year old relative of ours, a World War Two vet.. While my stay, I checked out the Waterloo Air Show, "Thunder in the Valley" to see the United States Air Force Thunderbird, Flight Demo Squadron. This was their next show after the CHICAGO AIR & WATER Show. I live near Chicago but missed them there. I'm mostly a Navy Blue Angels fan. They fly tighter and frankly I think they are crisper in their maneuvers. But- a pilot is a pilot and that means I appreciate the beauty of flight no matter who- Here are a few of the many video shots I took while there- For some reason, clouds in the sky seemed reddish in color with the sun... probably because of the humidity (haze) in the sky. On a hot summer's evening (7-25-12) I got a call from one of my friends who works for Iowa Interstate who told me another one of my friends was engineer the IAIS 513 Rock Island heritage unit. When my friend in 513 saw me- he flashed the #boards (our way of saying "hi") this was shot with my new Sony HD camera but unfortunately I haven't figured out all the settings- I don't think the quality was set at the highest level... **Remember Railfans.. ALWAYS ask for Permission First...it's their property!!! ** My buddy who is an engineer for Iowa Interstate told me (as he usually does) that the Rock Island IAIS 513 would be in Bureau Junction for a coal run. It was parked on the siding. He was there and I asked him if I could get close to take photos and he said sure, but I had to stay OFF the tracks near the edge and OFF the locomotive, he told me not to climb on it. So I followed his instructions and was able to get some great video while respecting IAIS property!. I had to use a lot of camera zoom though! :) and it seems like i'm really close to it but I'm about 6-8 feet away at the closest and still on zoom lens, so sorry for the shakiness. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpDL9I7uW-Y

Hi guys- Here is another review of a great looking locomotive from MTH Electric trains. This is an ES44AC in Iowa Interstate colors. It's a true 1/48 scale O-gauge model. I received this back in early June but just got around to posting the review. I have all three cab numbers 500,502,&507 and I also have the non-powered unit cab# 510. I plan to power-up the non powered unit- then I'll have four powered units. In the near future I plan to do a video in which I lash-up all units!!! I plan to do that shortly. On Friday October 7th 2011, Iowa Interstate Railroad's East Train, led by locomotive #513 the "Rock Island" was coming into Illinois Valley on its way to Chicago. First stop in the Valley, was Bureau Junction, IL. About 8 miles west of Bureau Junction, in the tiny town of Tiskilwa, IL the 513's consist derailed. 26 cars total with 6 ethanol cars exploding and burning. The entire town of Tiskilwa was evacuated. Later that morning I flew over the wreck site in hopes of getting photos for an Iowa Interstate employee who's a friend of mine and was waiting at Bureau for alternate orders. Unfortunately there was lots of turbulence and I could not get a smooth ride. I was also dodging Chicago's Channel 7 ABC news helicopter who I also was talking to on the radio. In fact you can here me say to him "yeah I see ya.." in the video.
