I managed to play guitar one last time, and I was determined to go out on a final revisiting of my beautiful daughter's poem, 'Where Does The Sun Go To At Night?', which touches my heart and my soul more and more every day. As does she and her brother.
The lyric to 'Where Does The Sun Go To At Night?' is a poem that was composed by Emily as her submission for her school project on space. I kid you not when I say that Em came up with the title, made that the opening line, came up with its couplet, and then paused to grab a pen and paper, and out came the rest, Athena-like. [There is a video of her doing so on my Patreon]. I was honoured to be allowed to contribute a few ideas - none of them as good as hers - and whilst I was playing the sounding board to her stream of prose, I came up with a tune to wrap underneath her words.
A day on, all I could remember was title and the ethos, so I took the liberty of adding some more lines of my own, changing the rhyme structure from AB-CD to AC-BD, - there are a few takes of that version as well on my YouTube - and, following that, I transcribed the original poem, and made this amalgamated version. The first 3 verses are Em's original poem, the last 4 are my re-draw.
Her words are the far better ones, being quite allegorical and metaphorical really, although I am not sure she knows that, since she is 9! I was just glad to be invited to the party.
I have no doubt that one day soon she will come up with a better tune than mine, to encompass her heartwarming allegorical poem. I was 27 when I learned to play the piano - Emily is playing it now, and I feel like Salieri!
As a sidebar, this is recorded on the 'safety' camera, which cut out at the end of the song. I went off at a tangent at the end, with one of my favourite anecdotes on my children, and that 'complete' version was recorded by the room camera, and has quite a few fans for the anecdote, if you want to check that out. Good to end on laughter. There's also a long intro here, whcih can be skipped using these time-stamps:

On a tertiary note, whilst here, if I may be so bold - I am uploading videos of my songs, my performances, my prose recitals, etc, to raise funds for my most amazing children, who get any donations when they reach 16. I have Progressive Palsy F-MND, and - well, and. There is no cure.
If you have enjoyed this video, and would care to make a small donation for them, many sincere thanks and much gratitude, from both myself, and from them via myself; the link is
