The VIC-II Kawari is much more than a simple MOS VIC-II replacement
Sometimes things come along which are neat, but turn out to be so much better once you look deeper. For me, this is one of those products. The Kawari has some awesome features which truly make it a game changer.
I bought a SID chip from AliExpress, shipped from China. WIll it work? In this video: SID testing, SID comparisons and using a NES controller on a C64.
Direct comparisons between 6581 SID, 8580R5 SID and SwinSID (with latest firmware.)

The C128 is known for having video with visible vertical lines in its video output. These are known as jail bars. The ClearVideo 128 promises to be a fix for the these unsightly artifacts -- can it deliver?
Note: Best watched at 1080p for best possible visibility of the "jail bars" in the captured video.

The original 1977 Apple II computer came with a keyboard that featured Datanetics DC-51 switches and a National Semiconductor MM5740AAE encoder. Unfortunately this combination results in a super unreliable keyboard due to the fragility of both parts. This original Apple ][ has a non functional keyboard so let's try to fix it!

These GE "Reveal" compact fluorescent bulbs have what GE calls "hybrid" technology which means they have a halogen bulb mounted inside the CFL spiral.
The problem with CFL bulbs is the spiral is designed to operate at relatively high temperature -- so when you turn it on when cold, light output is far below the rated output. As the bulb warms up over the course of a minute or two, the light output gradually increases until it is at full brightness.
The hybrid bulb tried to mitigate this problem but by activating the halogen bulb immediately at startup and shuts it off when the CFL is up to temperature and producing the rated amount of light.
You can buy these bulbs at Target where they have a large selection. Only packages marked with the hybrid logo have this tech. (I have some older bulbs of the same type that don't have this.)
There are both Reveal brand and also regular (and slightly cheaper GE) bulbs available -- but I find that the reveal ones produce a nicer and more pleasing light when compared to incandescent bulbs.

A viewer donated this awesome little Panasonic 5" TV set back in SMMC 0006. Unfortunately, it's RF only which limits the usefulness when it comes to old computers. In this video I figure out how to add a composite input to this TV to increase the picture quality dramatically and turn it into a little TV that I can actually use.
