Looking for love? Some loves are a curse - some are a blessing. Which love do we choose?
Some search for a Hollywood style love. Mostly it’s fake, fleshly, and destructive.
Finding the right kind of love can make life so much richer. There’s blessing in relationships with godly friends, in a lifelong commitment in marriage. The ultimate love relationship is to know God.
Sadly, some know only a love that will bring ruin and loss. This is a love NOT to have: 1 John 2:15-17 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
“World”, here, means the system and way of life that is led by satan, 2 Corinthians 4:4 …the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not. It speaks of the evil world system. At the heart of it is a wanting of sin; a refusing of God. John does not say: "Don't love the world too much" but he says, “Do not love the world at all”.
The love of the world is filled with fleshly appetites and selfish pride. The world lies in the grip of the evil one, 1 John 5:19. The world is what appeals to the flesh, and works against God. The world hates Christ and real Christians. The love of the world draws people like a magnet. Ungodly influences and sinful ways bring them hurt and shame.
To love the world and its things is an empty love, with short-lived pleasures. Moses saw what the love of the world looked like. He could have had all the treasures and pleasures of Egypt - but he chose a different love. Hebrews 11:24-26 By faith Moses… refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt… Moses knew that to love the world and its empty pleasures was no match for the blessing of knowing God.
John contrasts the love of the world and the love of God the Father. To know and love the eternal God, and to be in His will - is greater value than loving this passing world.
The Bible tells of some who are “lovers of pleasure” rather than “lovers of God”, 2 Timothy 3:4. Some pursue pleasure and vanities as their god. God warns us to NOT be conformed to the world, Romans 12:2.
Demas, was one drawn away by this magnet, that is the world. He deserted Paul, “having loved this present world” (2 Timothy 4:10).

Salvation, full and free. Seek ye the Lord. The welcome words of Isaiah 55 from preacher Jesse Trumble.
Isaiah 55:1 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
God's invites us to freely feast and drink, without money and without price. Jesus is saying that he has something here for the thirsty soul. He offers pardon that brings joy. He fills the searching soul and satisfies our deepest need of life. His offer is free.
A life spent only for pleasures and temporal things like power, influence or wealth is just a waste. The Prodigal Son went to a far country, threw away his money, and ended up in a pigsty. A life that pursues after that which is not of God ends up in the pigsty.
Here is something that satisfies this hunger and this thirst. A life lived with God is truly full.
God is convicting us to come to him and hear his words. The Holy One of Israel is the Lord Jesus Christ. He calls us to pursue him and to forsake our ways and our thoughts. He offers mercy to us and his promise to pardon us abundantly.
This offer of pardon is only for a limited time. Today is the day of salvation.
Isaiah 55:6-9 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: 7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
God is still on the throne and he never forsakes his own. The Holy Bible goes forth, and it feeds, judges, condemns, guides, protects, and fulfills its promises. Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
Our thoughts and ways are wicked and against God, but Jesus has the answer for your life. Cry out to him for help, turn unto him, and you will know his saving love. He will abundantly pardon.

A plea to be unfeigned in our faith. God does a real work in human souls, as we humble ourselves before Him, and be real. As we see in the genuine, humble work of Paul.
Bro Jesse Trumble ministers on Acts 17 and 1 Thessalonians 2. It's a plea - to be genuine before God, and to please God. As God used Paul, to bring people to Christ, and to minister to them, so too, he can use every yielded vessel. You and me.
Acts 17:1-10 ...they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews: 2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures, 3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ. 4 And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few. 5 But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people. 6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also; 7 Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus. 8 And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things...
Just before this, in chapter 16, Paul had been in Philippi where he had cast out the demon from a woman who was being used to predict the future. Her masters who had made money from her had gone to the the rulers and put Paul in jail. Yet Paul did not stay in jail - the walls came a' tumbling down, just like at Jericho. The the whole jail shook, the chains fell off, the prison bars were opened, and people fled. The jailer there was going to kill himself, but Paul brought to him Christ. Also he reached Lydia there. Paul was persecuted and imprisoned - yet we see God's miraculous intervention and the power of God, to deliver his people, not only from jail, but from sin.
God had prepared Paul - as he came to know Christ in his miraculous salvation on the road to Damascus. He tells of his ministry: 1 Thessalonians 2:1-20 For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain: 2 But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention. 3 For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile: 4 But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts. 5 For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness: 6 Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ. 7 But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children: 8 So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us. 9 For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God. 10 Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe: 11 As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children, 12 That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory. 13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe... 19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? 20 For ye are our glory and joy.
We see the genuine heart of Paul at work. He was real. He showed the fruit of an unfeigned life. He was humble, gentle. There was no guile.
We're all as broken vessels, and can be used of God. May we likewise humble ourselves and seek to glorify God in our daily walk. Be truthful before others. I am nothing without God.
The heart of Paul is the heart of someone who is given over to God - a heart of someone who is genuine. Don't be fake. God seeks The Humble Heart. The Humble man. Christ in you.
Be genuine. Yield yourself to God. As with Paul, God will use you to reach and minister to others.

What does the Bible teach about the new man and the old man? A message from preacher, Peter Gregoric.
The believer in Christ has a dual nature: the old man, which is after the Flesh, and the new man, which is our Spirit, which is born again.
Ephesians 4:22-24 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
We are to put off the old man and to put on the new man.
Every one has a body, a spirit, and a soul. Man is made in the image of God. Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. We have a triune nature.
The Bible teaches that the spirit of an unsaved man is dead - spiritually dead before God. For people who aren't saved, their body is alive, but their spirit is dead; they're dead in their trespasses and sins (Ephesians 2:1).
Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
When we're saved our spirit is made alive within us - our spirit is born again.
The unsaved will have to stand before God and they will answer for every sin they have done in their whole life.
John chapter 3 tells about being born again; a spiritual birth. Except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. It's not about reforming the old man – we need to have a spirit made NEW. It's a spiritual birth that we need.
As believers, we still have our body which is still sinful - our old man - but we also have the new man, which is made perfect. We have to decide daily whether or not we're going to walk in the old man and fulfil the lust of the flesh - the desires of the flesh – or to walk in the new man which is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Our old man is at enmity with God - it's carnal - it cannot please God. On the other hand, the new man which we get when we're born again only wants to do that which is right; it cannot sin. The problem we have is that we don't walk in the new man all the time.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Spiritually, I have that new spirit, and the fruit of the spirit.
Fact is, we commit sin. At times we're still walking in the old man. That doesn't mean that we're not saved. 1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
What's going on is a struggle – a constant battle - where the flesh lusteth against the spirit and the spirit against the flesh.
Paul rebukes the Corinthians - who've been saved for quite some time - yet they're carnal – as "babes" in Christ. Spiritually, people can be the same way, they're saved,, but they're still as a babe in Christ, and they still need the milk of the word. The Corinthian Church was carnal - walking in the old man, and lacking spiritual development.
Of course we can try in vain to reform the old man. But he is spiritually dead. Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
Someone who's NOT saved CANNOT please God. No matter how hard they try to reform that old man, it's dead - you can't revive it. It's only by God – by being born again that you have that new man, that new spirit. Without faith it's impossible to please God. You have to have faith to be saved.
Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. We are called to crucify that old man - kill that old man.
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Romans 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
Either you’re walking in the new man or walking in the old man. You're always going to have that struggle.
One day, praise God , He will raise up that old man - at the resurrection. God will take our body, our sinful body, and make it new - a glorified body - at the resurrection.
1 Corinthians 15:52-53 …we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
At the rapture, the last trump, God will destroy the old man and we will have a sinless body. It is then that we will have that "complete package" - the body, spirit, and soul – and we will be with the Lord for all eternity. God will raise up our body, and the dead in Christ shall rise first.
For the moment, we have the old man and the new man fighting against each other; they're warring against each other. Yet we have that glad hope that one day that's going to be done away with, and that’s a great encouragement we can have.

What do we treasure? What drives us? Values. Priorities. The one essential value of a lifetime is this one thing. Do we glorify God?
AS GOD’S PEOPLE we have VALUES – the things we want to pass on to our children; what we long to instil in our grandchildren. Yet sadly, more and more, children are growing up GODLESS in a God forsaking Australia these days. Our world has largely FORSAKEN and FORGOTTEN God. EVEN CHURCHGOERS, by and large, seem to be BIBLICALLY ILLITERATE... day by day they give little thought for what pleases or displeases God.
The world puts AN EMPHASIS on SELF GLORY, not on PLEASING GOD. Many have a “ME FIRST” MENTALITY... THE WORLD places its value on INFORMATION, or in glorifying HUMAN THINKING. All the while, it rejects GOD’S WORD – which is THE REAL SOURCE of WISDOM. For God’s people, we know that THE WAY TO LIFE is NARROW. THE TRUTH, it is DEPENDENT on knowing THE LORD JESUS CHRIST and HIS EXCLUSIVE CLAIMS as THE ONE and ONLY SAVIOUR.
The true VALUE of a LIFETIME all boils down to ONE ESSENTIAL PRINCIPLE. Which is: GLORIFY GOD. Let us measure everything by this, all important standard. Everything that is of TRUE VALUE stems from this one truth. It is APPLIED TRUTH: DO ALL TO THE GLORY OF GOD. 1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
Someone has DEFINED ‘GLORY’ as the praise and honour due only to God – for who He is, for what He does and what He is to do. The GLORY speaks of God’s true NATURE, and CHARACTER, the manifestation of His BEING, His LIKENESS, His PRESENCE. THE GLORY OF GOD was THE PRIORITY for the people of God, as His tangible presence as they journeyed through the wilderness wanderings. The people followed the Glory of God as God was manifested in the Fiery Cloud. When the people disobeyed God the glory left - and Israel lost direction. ALL HOPE WAS LOST. When THE GLORY DEPARTED from the people of God, it meant a time of DEADNESS, and a SPIRITUAL FAMINE.
God’s PURPOSE is that we GLORIFY HIM... Now, and forevermore... God has designed us this way... WIRED US THIS WAY. We have been made that THE GLORY OF GOD is to SHINE through us. 2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of THE GLORY OF GOD in the face of Jesus Christ.
THE GLORY OF GOD ought to dictate OUR CONDUCT. It should INSPIRE us – to ASPIRE to being our HIGHEST and BEST – all for His Glory – to be excellent at what is good. THE CHIEF AIM of every believer ought to be: To GLORIFY GOD and to ENJOY HIM NOW and FOREVER.
We GLORIFY GOD – as we uphold THE SCRIPTURES. As God’s people we are committed to the SCRIPTURE as our ABSOLUTE and ULTIMATE AUTHORITY. Our world fool

What's encouragement - and how do we do it?
It means to inspire others with hope, courage, confidence. It's gift from God - Romans 12:8.
The Bible tells us of Mr Encouragement – "Barnabas" – his name means "Encourager" (Acts 4:36-37).
When others gave up on people, Barnabas kept on encouraging and standing by people.
An Encourager… Shares practically. Barnabas gave of himself freely to help needy Christians. He sacrificed himself and his own interests for the benefit of others. He gave freely to strengthen God’s work.
How can we give more of our time, our substance and our talents to help the church go forward? When we give of ourselves and our substance - we will encourage others to join in and share the load.
An Encourager… Stands up for others Acts 9:26. Paul had been an enemy of the church. The disciples didn’t trust him - but Barnabas came by Paul’s side. How can we make the effort - to reach out to the lonely or rejected?
An Encourager… Speaks encouragement Acts 11:22-23. Barnabas was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord. He gave encouragement! It's like a coach who motivates his team. We can start a chain reaction of encouragement.
An Encourager… Soldiers on in trials Acts 13:49-52. Barnabas showed joy in the midst of trials. Barnabas, along with Paul, preached the Word of God and faced persecution and rejection. Instead of being discouraged and quitting, they went on their way rejoicing.
Going through battles in life shows the true depth of our faith. How real is our faith in God? Let’s learn to handle set-backs with joy and faith.
An Encourager… Sticks by weaker ones Acts 15:37-39. Mark had gone on their first missionary journey, but had decided during the trip to return home. Barnabas now wanted Mark to join on another mission, but Paul would not agree. Barnabas's patient encouragement saw Mark's eventual effective ministry. Barnabas showed forgiveness. Barnabas gave this discouraged and defeated young man a second chance.
We need more Barnabas’s in the church today — people who care. Are we like Barnabas? Are we willing to help others, and patiently work with them? Are we a Son of Encouragement?
Be like the Good Samaritan. He stopped, bound up the wounds and helped the hurt man recover.
He is the God of second chances, Jonah 3:1. We can be like Him - we can be an encourager!
Barnabas showed mercy and forgiveness to Paul - and to Mark. Forgiveness is often a difficult thing, especially if you have been personally wronged, but forgiveness is not optional; it is commanded.
Is there someone who we can come along side to help along the way? Be a Barnabas!
We need to be like Barnabas in our Homes. Be more positive and encouraging.
We need to be like Barnabas at Church. We can destroy our relationships with other Christians, and in turn our relationship with God - and theirs. Watch over your words. Show grace and concern for your brother or sister in Christ. Encouragement builds people up rather than tearing them down.
Encourage one another. The Bible calls all of us to be an encourager. Not to focus on criticising and looking for faults. Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Exhorting one another. In other words, encouraging one another. More and more, continuously is the sense of it.
We need to be a Barnabas to others. We all need people like Barnabas in our lives - people who will encourage - support us - and lift up our spirits!
We can also go direct to the Word for God’s sweet encouragement for our soul.
We can Encourage - or DIScourage. There are 2 kinds of people in church. One kind finds all the fault and aim to tear others down. Others seek to build up their fellow believers and to help them to grow in the Lord.
It’s so easy to be unkind and self-centred and not thoughtful of others. It is easy to criticise instead of encourage. There are two kinds of people on earth - the people who lift and the people who lean. Do we ENcourage - or DIScourage?
Do our Words Encourage? How will you use your - 25,000, women, and 14,000, men - words today?
The Lord is "The Friend of a wounded heart." He cares for hurting humanity. He uplifts the distressed and downtrodden.
YOU can be an Encourager! Who do you know who may need encouraging? Speak encouragement to those who need it.
Let's bind up the brokenhearted. Let's lift up the discouraged. Let's exercise the gift of encouragement. Look for opportunities encourage.
• The practical need you can supply
• The new Christian who needs nurturing
• The Christian who is overcoming failure.
Extend a hand of fellowship. Be sensitive to other’s needs. Give appreciation, a smile, a kind word. Give a thoughtful word, a helping hand. Just quietly be there.
Be an Encourager.
