HOW TO INVEST IN HEAVEN TODAY--The Eternal Reward of Grace-Energized Kindness
Can you imagine how liberating it would be to know how to choose the best in life? We live in a complex world of multiple choices, many of which are good. We have more new information and more new opportunities offered to us each week—than the average 18th-century person was offered in a lifetime.
Often this leads to an overloaded mind, an overloaded life—and a short-circuited decision-making system. We just don’t know which opportunity and what activity to choose to spend our time doing. Wouldn’t it be incredible to confidently go to work or school and know that you are doing exactly what God wants done? And think of life at home, as you travel, in your free time and everywhere you are—just to know that we are pleasing God by our actions? We can only make one investment in that portion of the river of time that flows by our lives at the speed of 60 minutes per hour. We can’t get time to use over—but we can redeem time as an investment for God.
Does God offer a plan to help us know what is our best use of time for His Kingdom and His Glory? Yes, and it is simple. Paul explains this way of life in Philippians 3.
Paul learned how to live a simple, singularly focused life as a believer. He knew why he was here, and what he was doing—and he did both with all of his strength. In fact, Paul says in Philippians 3 that he was straining every ounce of his body towards the goal of his life which was Christ-like living.
Paul made the Christian life simple because he simply lived life for Christ. He stated his simple goal in Philippians 3.
Philippians 3:12-14 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. NKJV
Paul confidently could say—
One Thing I Do
One thing I do.
Have you come to that point?
It’s a life of many things—done for one supreme purpose.
Paul was consumed with one goal in life, one purpose for living. He did many things—
he had a skill in tent-making that he used to earn a living,
he had a love to travel,
he had a tremendous communication skill set in both speaking and writing,
he was a genius at making and staying in touch with friends,
he loved to sail around the Mediterranean Sea,
he was somewhat of a power-walker (walking hundreds of miles in walks around the Roman Empire),
he had social skills that made him able to comfortably move among the highest circles of the wealthy,
he was very sensitive to the needs and concerns of the poor—and on and on we could go picking out the multi-faceted life of this accomplished person.
But, here in Philippians 3, Paul confesses that everything he did was harnessed to one dominating purpose in his life. One thing connected--every other thing.
“Paul had reduced the whole of sanctification to the simple and clear goal of doing “one thing”—pursuing Christlikeness”.

So many of you have asked about the next leg of our journey and here it is. The Life of Christ through the Gospels in the Holy Land and now the Life & Letters of Paul through the Lands of the Book of the Roman Empire. This is the introduction to this exciting new small-group study.
Christ’s life, ministry, death, burial, and resurrection were all accomplished under the shadow of the Roman Empire.
Paul’s entire life and ministry were lived out across the Roman Empire.
Each of Paul’s letters (or Epistles) was written and circulated in the Roman Empire.
God had Paul explain in Galatians 4:4-5, that Christ came and Paul proclaimed the Gospel in that ‘Roman Empire” context, which God describes as “the fullness of the time”.
The best way to understand, interpret, and apply the Epistles of Paul is to have a good grasp of the Roman Empire.

the-key-to-unlock-all-bible-prophecy
When Jesus told His disciples and us about the future he built every word of it around one spot on earth. In theological circles, this message (Matthew 24; Mark 13; Luke 21) is called the Olivet Discourse. Jesus framed His words about the rest of the history of this planet by the sight of Jerusalem in all its earthly glory spread in front of Him.
Look again at Christ's very first words in Matthew 24:2. All that He says about His second coming is introduced by those words. He said to keep your eye on Jerusalem. I am ascending from the Mount of Olives (the center of Jerusalem then and now) and I am returning to the Mount of Olives.
As we turn to the subject again of Christ's coming and those incredibly detailed snapshots He left us in Matthew 24, we are focusing on Jerusalem. According to the Lord, the end of the world centers around Jerusalem.
As mentioned over 800 times in God's Word —Jerusalem is a very important place. It was in Jerusalem that God promised Christ's coming as the Lamb of God to Abraham. It was here that David was promised a future son that would have an endless kingdom. It was here God worked.
JERUSALEM IS GOD'S CITY
There are three reasons why Jerusalem is so vital: because Jerusalem is GOD'S CITY, GOD'S CLOCK, AND GOD'S CANVAS.
GOD'S CITY because He has chosen Jerusalem (1 Kings 11:36).

Today, and every day of our lives, the Cross of Christ is the source of our power to live in this world of sin.
Living a life that glorifies God is called sanctified living.
Sanctification means that God is leading and controlling our lives.
As we return to Christ’s Last Words to His Church, we find that His Church at:
Laodicea was not Living in
Shadow of Christ’s Cross
For two generations, all the local churches around Laodicea had savored the truths about the Cross of Christ. Today, as we gather as Christ’s Church, we gather to hear again for our generation, His warning to: Never stop living in the shadow of the Cross.
Perhaps the two best descriptions of what we have in Christ are in the epistle or letter to the church scattered through the area of the neighbors of Laodicea. They were the Galatians. Look with me at the best-known verse on the cross in Galatian 2:20, where Paul shares his own personal salvation testimony:
Galatians 2:20 (NKJV) I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Galatians 2:20 is our purpose statement for Living
Salvation begins and ends at the Cross.
Jesus Christ on the Cross was both the Author and Finisher of our faith.
Life for the believer is always lived in the shadow of Christ’s Cross. To the degree that is understood, is to the degree that our lives are lived pleasing to God and fruitful for His purposes. That is the essence of Galatians 2:20.
But the “How to” portion is declared a few chapters later in the same book. Turn onward with me to Galatians 6. Paul has explained, in chapters 3-5: the Spirit-led, Spirit-filled, Spirit-fruited, Spirit-liberated life of salvation we all in Christ, have been given.

Immutable Laws of Nature
We all know that there are laws in science. The well-used laws of science lead to constant technological advances. The more we know, understand, and harness those laws the faster, smaller, and more powerful & efficient our technology becomes.
But for just a moment, think about where those laws came from. Immediately we as believers know that they came from the Almighty God who spoke into existence this Universe, overflowing with the laws of thermodynamics and electromagnetism that frame everything. God invented, instituted, and maintains those very laws of science that every scientist lives by and works with.
The laws of electromagnetism have led humans to understand the spectrum of light, sound, and all other known waveforms. So much so that we can study, measure, and eventually use the various lengths & speeds of these waves, which include the tiny realm of visible and hearable waves of sound and light.
Waves of electromagnetism go in both directions on the spectrum so far studied, from the super large and slow waves (like radio waves) to super small and fast waves (gamma rays).
Someone Made Those Laws of Nature
But all of these observed scientific laws are just that: laws humans have observed and not created. We build our technology on the reality that, these laws of nature don’t change, they just remain constant.
God made laws that frame every process of the Cosmos. God decided everything: from the wavelengths of electromagnetic energy to the water-based forms of life, to the composition of the various types of stars, and the formations of galaxies, clusters of galaxies, and the dynamics of every particle in the atomic world.

Do you remember a teacher, or coach, that was so special and encouraging to you? Do you member how much they meant to you? Do you remember how you rose to their expectations of you as they coached or taught you?
What type of response do we have to someone we love, respect, and deeply admire? Usually, when they express their expectations or desires, we do everything to try to meet their expectations, right?
That experience that many of us have had have shared is really a key to understanding our passage of Scripture this morning in Matthew 6:11.
We are looking at the Lord’s Prayer’s seven petitions, and have arrived at the middle, or fourth.
The words are simple: “Give us this day our daily bread”. The meaning is also simple, but the message Christ conveys in both the context of this petition to the entire prayer, and the entire prayer to the context in the Sermon on the Mount is profound. Watch what I mean.
POINT ONE: JESUS SHARES HIS EXPECTATIONS OF HIS FIRST DISCIPLES IN MATTHEW 5-7
Here are the plain truths we would all agree upon.
The Sermon of the Mount was given directly, and primarily to Christ's disciples. Look at Matthew 5:1 with me for a moment. The crowds around may have listened, and we through the inspiration of the Bible can also now hear this message. But, the first responders were intended by Jesus to be His disciples. So, Matthew 5-7 was initially communicated directly to the Twelve, His first disciples.
In Matthew 6 Jesus expresses some expectations or desires of His disciples, not commands. Notice that Jesus never commands these disciplines or choices, He just states them as assumptions that these are things they would be doing. In other words, Jesus says this is what I expect you are already doing as my disciples.
What were those expectations?
JESUS ASSUMED HIS DISCIPLES WOULD GIVE, PRAY & FAST
Notice the way Jesus introduced these three areas of spiritual discipline:
Giving to the Poor: In Matthew 6:1-4 Jesus assumes that they would be giving to the needy. It was His expectation that any disciple of His would be concerned and engaged in giving to the poor and needy. Follow along as I read His words, and notice how He describes the giving of alms or gifts to the poor.

Part of the fulness of the time that Paul spoke of was also the detached, hands-off policy of Tiberius during his last ten years on Capri.
The Empire moved along fearful of his wrath and almost unnoticed in a far-off province the Ministry of Jesus was launched, three plus years were invested in teaching & discipling His 12, and then Rome crucified Him, buried Him, and God RAISED HIM.
All that while Tiberius partied away his last years on Capri.

Almighty God who sees everything, knows everything, and is infinitely wise, has a plan. That plan involves ending the sin, death, evil, and rebellion in this world. That plan has been written down and is ours today.
As we start our study of this next section it reminds us that ONLY God knows the future. No person, no demon, no astrologer, no prophet, no writer, no one but God KNOWS the future. That is one of the most amazing facets of God’s character. He never is surprised. God always knows what WILL happen; and only He knows that. We need to listen to God.
The Return of the King
All of human history, since the fall of mankind in the Garden of Eden, has been hurtling towards this moment, when the Creator and King of the Universe comes back to set things in order.
For thousands of years sin has run rampantly throughout the earth and the universe. Satan and his evil angels have done all they could do to thwart and disrupt the knowledge of God. Evil and misery have festered. Sin has permeated every part of human history. Death has taken every human but Enoch & Elijah. No one else has avoided death. So how can someone survive the end of the world? By listening to God's Word.
Revelation 6-19 marks the Lord says enough and starting the inexorable conquest back of sin’s reign and Satan’s rebellion.
There is probably no part of Scripture more relevant to our times than this one. No portion of Scripture better frames the way we should see global events than this one. We are in the timeliest, most cutting edge truths of God's Word as we enter these chapters, because:
Only God knows the Future
To understand the magnitude of what lies before us, do you remember God’s calling card from the Old Testament? When Israel was sinking into idolatry, false worship, and apostasy, God declared that they could know which God was the true God by the simple fact that only He knew the future.
